Impact assessment of each adolescent
Developing Aarogya Mitras
Covering Community and School Adolescents

An initiative started in 2014, to enhance and educate on health seeking behavior for reproductive and sexual health. This project focuses on both – Adolescents to make them informed and responsible adults of better future; and Women as they are the key change agents in the community.

The project covers 4000 adolescent boys and girls in the age group 9 to 19 years and 2000 women of reproductive age group. It is delivered by trained ‘Health Advisors’ the similar communities as the beneficiaries and implemented across the vulnerable communities of Bandra East. The comprehensive approach and intervention of this project includes

  • ‘Aarogyamitra Kendra’ (a resource center) – a unique platform for learning and sharing
  • Home and school visits for creating awareness
  • Monthly meetings of Aarogyamitra (community volunteers) with focus on health, life skills and availing vocational education
  • Advocacy and networking with stakeholders

Project evaluation is done in two ways

Pre and post surveys, and a six-month retention survey
Openness in role plays and case studies documenting behavioral change

The project  has received an overwhelming response from the community. The model is highly replicable and has allowed fast expansion and increased beneficiary coverage.
